Our day with Carmine Esposito, www.taxicar.it, was the 5th most wonderful day of my life!!!!! We have been to Sorrento several times before and once had taken the bus as far as Positano. I always wanted to go back and also go to Amalfi, but there was no way I was going to do that bus trip again and I knew my DD would not handle it well. This was a very special family trip; me, DH, DD, DS and new DIL. My son and daughter-in-law had never been to Sorrento or the area before and we wanted to make sure the trip was one to remember. We had no clue how special it was going to turn out to be! We had planned to take a ferry to Positano and Amalfi and try and find someway to avoid the bus. That plan went out the window as soon as we met Carmine (totally by accident) and he described the kind of day he would provide if we hired him to take us on an Amalfi Coast excursion. I was skeptical at first because of the cost, but there was something in his voice that made us believe he would deliver, so we took the chance and he did deliver! He picked us up at 9am at our apartment, in a nice Mercedes Mini-van (I want one). He had iced water botlles prepared for all 5 of us (which we would need later). As we started out through Sorrento and going through the other towns on the way to the coast road, he gave us a lot of history of the area and made sure that we did not miss any important sights or views. He said to tell him if we saw something special we wanted to take a picture of and he would stop, and he did. My DD was in the front seat and she was going picture crazy the whole trip and he stopped everytime! I did not think we were ever going to get anywhere that day:) Carmine stopped at several places on the way to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello where we could get out, take pictures, drink fresh squeezed orange juice, and get a wonderful history lesson of each location. Our first big stop was Positano! He parked about midway down in town and let us out and told us to go have fun and we would meet back in couple of hours or whenever we were ready to go. This was sooooo much better thatn our last trip there! We went down to the beach, had a few drinks, wandered through the shops and discovered Positano's charm. Now I understand why people rave about it and we were only there for a couple of hours! I'll be back:) After a few more view stops, we arrived in Amalfi. I have always wanted to go there and finally I made it! Our first stop was the Hotel Santa Caterina because Carmine wanted us to see the beautiful views from the terrace there. OH MY! That hotel is sooooo gorgeous and the views!!! All 5 of us had to pick up our jaws from the ground. Blown away!!! It was a beautiful hotel and we were all feeling like someone needed to pinch us, so we ordered a bottle of wine to celebrate our good fortune:) The service was wonderful. Everyone there was so nice and made us feel welcome even though we had only stopped to steal the view for a few minutes:) Sadly, it was time to move on. All was made even better at our next stop. Carmine had made reservations for us at Ristorante Lido Azzuro in Amalfi! We had the most awesome table, right at the water and the wonderful views. The food was excellant, the wine was heavenly and the service was superb! All 5 of us had tears of happiness in our eyes! Because of our timing, Carmine took us to Ravello right after lunch because he wanted to bring us back to Amalfi after siesta. Off we headed to Ravello. Unfortunately, as soon as we got there the heavens decided to open up and it stayed like that for awhile. We wandered around town a little, had some coffee and admired the views. I am sure it is wonderful town to visit, just not in a downpour. We headed back down to Amalfi. The rain had stopped and we visited the Duomo and wandered around. I loved Amalfi and can not wait to return! After all of this, we were all exhausted and happy to get back in Carmine's van for the trip back to Sorrento. He put some soft music on the stereo and we all fell fast asleep until we arrived in Sorrento! No one got car sick and we got our siesta:) We arrived back in Sorrento about 6:30pm. Now that was a day-trip! The cost for the 5 of us for that day for 9 1/2 hours, was 450 Euros. That might seem expensive to some people, but it was a wonderful, magical day that we would not have even came close to having if we had used the bus or boat. All 5 of us said that it was like Carmine knew exactly what we needed before we did. We have so many great memories and pictures of that day. We will never, ever forget our wonderful experience and we have to thank the most charming, Carmine Esposito for that! We also hired him to drive us Rome the next day and that was also worth every Euro! We will never take the train again:)
Best regards, Helen M. Hunt
Thank you so much for such great service. It was truly a joy to see you again! The Amalfi Coast drive and lunch were fantastic, as was the company. And we apologize again for the early hour on our return to the USA, but we are grateful you were willing to accommodate us and make sure we got back to the airport in time. I will call upon you again when I next visit Sorrento. Thank you again!!
Ciao! Linda and Beverly
